Japan-Food

I ate incredibly well during my 4-week trip to Japan! Check out the gallery for my personal Top 12 must-try Japanese dishes.

Dining Culture in Japan – Quick Etiquette Guide:

  • Traditional restaurants: sit on floor cushions at low tables (tatami rooms)

  • Shoes off at the entrance, indoor slippers provided

  • Use separate “toilet slippers” for the restroom

  • Pay at the front counter, not at the table

  • Tipping is not customary

  • Izakaya = Japanese pubs | Ryotei = exclusive, traditional restaurants

  • Use chopsticks properly:
✘ Don’t stick them upright into rice (symbol of death)
✘ Don’t point or push dishes with them
